Lean Management Game:
The Bateriada®
The essence of the role of planning in improving the production process using Lean Management
About the game
Description
The Bateriada® game is an effective tool that not only presents Lean Management tools, but also demonstrates the mechanisms of their implementation. In the game, a large role is played by the different lead times for individual products, which makes it possible to demonstrate the important role of planning in the course of order processing.
The game simulates the problems of improperly designed processes, unbalanced workloads at individual stations and lack of flow. On the demand (customer) side, players face variable lead times and their variable number of finished goods they must deliver.
The goal of the game
Improve MTO (made to order / custom manufacturing) production processes to meet customer requirements (quality, completeness, timeliness).
Gameplay
Participants recognize the situation in a simulated production process and identify problems disrupting its flow. The initiation and implementation of improvement activities are carried out based on the presented continuous improvement tools and visual performance management principles.
In subsequent rounds of improvement, participants introduce improvements aimed at ensuring the efficient flow of materials and information. Standardization of the process begins with the introduction of the kanban system to feed jobs and system solutions to planner activities.
Process
The game simulates a manufacturing process for a customer's order, in which lead time is variable. The manufacturing process is single-threaded, pipelined with the possibility of converting in-progress lead time improvements into a multi-threaded process.
Central to ensuring the flow of information and material in the process is the role of planning, which is responsible for queuing orders and starting orders according to set priorities.
