Kanban Game:
Schreiben®
Implementing a pull system in the production process and supply chain for an environment with a wide variety of products
About the game
Description
Kanban (pull system) is a tool for balancing flows with customer orders. The system allows you to optimize inventory levels and create a mechanism for continuous improvement in production processes. In the game, participants manage inventory levels, timeliness and response time to customer orders.
The game focuses on demonstrating the implementation of a pull system in the manufacturing process and supply chain in an environment with a wide variety of products. The principles of the pull system in custom manufacturing are also presented.
The goal of the game
Design of a pull system in the area of inventory management of finished goods, semi-finished products and materials
.Gameplay
In the game, we simulate various functions and process steps allowing participants to look at the entire order fulfillment process. Over the course of the game, participants use a product differentiation funnel, a pull system and a heijun to see the effects these solutions have. After each round, the impact of inventory reduction on on-time delivery to the customer is analyzed.
Decisions on the place and extent of improvement are made based on a set of simplified logistics and financial indicators. Players are tasked not only with reducing the size of inventories of materials and work-in-progress (semi-finished products), but also with determining where to keep inventory in the process.
Process
Players take on roles such as Customer, Planner, Production, Procurement and Suppliers and have the opportunity to look at the entire order fulfillment process. Over the course of the game, participants gradually implement improvements (pull system and heijunka) to see the effects these solutions have.
The Schreiben game uses a simple production process, with two parallel runs with a huge variety of typical and atypical products, simulating all these elements.
